Erie Fire Department was called to W 34th & Schaper Ave early this afternoon.  As units responded Fire Comm reported they had received multiple calls and there was possibly a female trapped.  Engine #6 arrived on the scene and reported a working fire.  Although crews made a quick attack, the 48 year old female was not able to escape the fire.  This is the 9th Fatal Fire in the City of the Erie in 2005.  It appears that there were no smoke detectors in the residence, and 8 of the 9 fatalities involved residential buildings that did not have smoke detectors.  The fire is under investigation by Erie Fire Department and the Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshall.
