Shortly after 6 p.m. Erie Fire Department units
were dispatched to the 411 Huron St. for a structure fire, the
initial caller reported entrapment.
The first alarm assignment was Deputy Chief 324, Engines 3, 6, 8,
11, 12 and Tower Ladder 2. EMS 46, 49 & S20 were also on the scene.
On arrival units found heavy smoke coming from the second floor of a
2 ½ story residence. In the fire apartment there were 6 occupants, 5
children and a babysitter. The building contained 3 apartments, and
all occupants of the fire apartment had made it to safety. All of
the other apartments occupants were also accounted for and there
were no injuries reported.
Crews used (1) 4" LDH supply line, and (2) 1 ¾” hand lines, and the
fire was contained to the bedroom and a small amount of extension to
the attic.
Crews also had to contend with icy conditions, and a temperature of
18 degrees.
10 people are left homeless, the Red Cross is assisting in finding
housing.
The fire is under investigation.
