02/25/06 - 03:20 - Erie Fire Department was dispatched to W 5th & Cherry St just before 03:30. Police discovered the working fire and notified the fire department. 323 arrived on the scene reported a working fire in a 2 story residence. Crews stretched lines to the interior of the building to make the fire attack, as other crews stretched lines to protect exposures. High winds fueled the fire, and threatened several exposures.

Crews quickly contained the fire, but were on scene for over an hour in overhaul operations. It appears that the building is vacant, but according to neighbors the building is used by vagrants. No injuries were reported and the fire is under investigation.
