Recent Incidents
Structure Fire Assist Department 17 01/24/12 - Wattsburg was dispatched to Lyons Rd for a report of a Structure Fire at 16:30 Tuesday afternoon. Crews from Kuhl Hose, Union City, Elgin, Waterford, Corry, Mill Village, Edinboro and Clymer were all dispatched to assist at the scene. On arrival Chief 171 confirmed a working fire.172 Engine crew made an aggressive attack of the fire on the second division while other crews completed a search and then placed salvage covers on the first division. The Fire was contained but it took over an hour to complete overhaul. Water Supply was established using a tender shuttle from a dry hydrant about 2 miles from the scene. Kuhl Hose Tender 685, 686, Squad 687 and REHAB 68 responded to assist. The Fire is under investigation by the Wattsburg Hose Co.
Structure Fire Assist Department 17 01/21/12 - Kuhl Hose along with Union City, Elgin, Waterford, & Corry Fire Departments were dispatched to assist Wattsburg at a structure fire in Phillipsville. On arrival Chief 171 confirmed a working fire. 172 and 683 Engines arrived set up on Side A and began a defensive attack. Union City 1132 & 1139 worked to protect exposures on the C & D sides of the building. 682 Engine supplied Tenders 685, 686, 176, & 145 from a drafting site a short distance from the fire. Those tenders supplied 683 & 1132 while Engine 174 supplied Elgin 756 from a separate drafting site. The fire was quickly knocked down but overhaul took several hours. REHAB 68 was on the scene to provide support for the 60 firefighters. The fire is under investigation by the Wattsburg Hose Co.
Boro Coverage / Fire at Laundromat 01/07/12 - So that a majority of the members of Edinboro Fire could enjoy watching fellow firefighters play in the 2nd annual Guns and Hoses hockey game, Kuhl Hose provided some coverage for the day at Station #38. Along with a few other members from other departments we staffed the Engine and Ambulance from early afternoon into the evening. Crews handled several EMS runs during the early afternoon hours, and just before 20:00 Sta #38 was sent to Waterford and Ontario St at the Laundromat for a Structure Fire. .........
MVA Lake Pleasant Rd 01/04/12 - Kuhl Hose and Emergycare ALS were sent to Lake Pleasant Rd for a vehicle accident. Dispatch reported possible entrapment and roll over. On arrival Chief 680 reported 2 vehicles heavy damage 1 overturned in a ditch. A follow up report of 1 confined in the car, and a second patient self extricated. 687 & 683 arrived and began patient care of the self extricated patient, as well as began to gain access and remove the patient confined to the car. The patient confined was extricated and both 687 & 697 transported to UPMC Hamot with ALS. PSP is investigating the accident.
2011 Year End Report Stats
Structure Fire Hannon Rd 12/28/11 - Just before 3:30 Wednesday afternoon Kuhl Hose, Fairfield, and Harborcreek were dispatched to assist Brookside for a report of a structure fire on Hannon Rd. A passerby noticed smoke coming from the eves of a residence and summoned the Fire Department. On arrival Engine 242 reported a working fire in a single family dwelling. Crews stretched 2 hand lines and worked to contain the fire. 683 arrived and set up RIT on side A and assisted with the safety officer role. Crews were able to contain the fire but not before there was extensive damage to the house. 683 and REHAB 68 assisted at the scene for about 2 hours. Lawrence Park, Belle Valley and Wesleyville also assisted at the scene. The fire is under investigation.
Structure Fire Knoyle Rd 12/21/11 - Kuhl Hose was dispatched to assist Wattsburg just before 05:00 Wednesday morning to a report of a house fire. Engines 683 & 682 arrived stretched 2 1/2" & 1 3/4" lines and made an aggressive attack on the fire. The fire was knocked down quickly, but due to the buildings age and construction overhaul took several hours. 685 & 686 along with tenders 176 & 206 and Engine 172 water supply operations were quickly set up. 687 arrived and provided REHAB and EMS. Brookside and Belle Valley also assisted at the scene. The fire is under investigation by the Wattsburg Fire Department.
RT 8 MVA 12/19/11 - Kuhl Hose and Emergycare were dispatched to a roll over on RT 8 near Wattsburg Rd Extension. On arrival Medic 193 reported a pick up roll over a bank that had struck a pole. The patient was confined to the truck for a short time. 687, 682 & 683 arrived extricated the patient and transported him to Hamot Shock Trauma. The pole that was struck was a telephone line, the line was across the road. Fire Police remained on the scene until Greene Township streets were able to place road closed signs. The State Police are investigating.
Picnic in December.... 12/17/11 - Kuhl Hose held the 3rd Annual Picnic in December family party Saturday at Station #68. About 80 people attended with lots of activities for everyone. Cookie Decorating and games for kids. Soccer, Hockey, Basketball and Corn Hole games were played in the apparatus bay. Everyone brought a dish to share and the fire department provided the sodas, hot dogs and deep fried turkeys. All of the kids got Christmas gifts but to earn them they had a "Fire Chief" decorating contest for fun... Already looking ahead to next years picnic....
Engine Assist Dept 17 12/02/11 - Engine 683 responded to RT 8 & 89 to assist Wattsburg at a Vehicle Accident early Friday Afternoon. Chief 180 arrived and reported 2 vehicles with moderate damage that had struck a pole. All of the victims refused transport and 683 secured the vehicles and assisted at the scene. PSP is investigating.
The Speakeasy Revival 11/26/11 - Tonight the "House of Blue Lights" & Kuhl Hose sponsored "The Speakeasy Revival." A regular group of Swing Dancers and their friends came to listen and dance to live music provided by "The Red Hot Rug Cutters." There were several drawings, a 50/50 and a Chinese auction. The Contest for the best 1920's attire was also a big draw. The dance was from 8 - 11 and all of the proceeds help to support the Kuhl Hose Company.
Attic Fire Dutch Rd 11/22/11 - Minutes before 10 pm Kuhl Hose was dispatched to a report of Smoke in the attic. On arrival 681 reported smoke showing. 683 arrived and stretched a line and found heavy smoke and heat. The fire was discovered in the A/D corner above a bedroom ceiling in the attic space. The fire was quickly contained. Belle Valley 369 Truck vented the roof and then began salvage operations while the engine crew extinguished and checked for extension of the fire. Waterford 148 RIT and Wattsburg for Water Supply also assisted at the scene. The fire is under investigation.
Assist Belle Valley 11/20/11 - Kuhl Hose sent 1 engine to assist Belle Valley at a report of a house fire just before 05:30 Sunday morning. The owner reported a chimney fire with possible extension to the walls. 683 arrived and was assigned to check for extension. The fire was contained to the chimney and crews cleared the scene in under an hour.
Assist Fairfield 11/19/11 - Fairfield was dispatched to a commercial structure fire just before 03:00 Saturday morning. The fire at Ore's 955 Automotive on Iroquois Ave. Shortly after arrival command requested Kuhl Hose and several other 2nd alarm companies to assist. 682 responded and worked with 204 Engine crew from Fuller Hose checking for extension and extinguishing the fire. 682 remained on the scene for about 2 hours. REHAB 68 was special called to the scene and remained until just after 05:00 The fire is under investigation.
Congratulations 11/17/11 - Congratulations to Firefighters Joe Petrone Jr, Chuck Will, Joe Will and Jim Will for obtaining their Firefighter 1 Certification. They all recently took the written and practical skills required to obtain the certification. This brings Kuhl Hose to over 50% of it's members to a minimum of Firefighter 1 Certification but many have far exceeded this level and are continually gaining other certifications. Again Congratulations Joe, Chuck, Joe and Jim.
MVA Rt 430 11/17/11 - Kuhl Hose was dispatched to handle a vehicle accident in Brookside's 1st due. Brookside was already at a vehicle accident with a pin. 687, 697 & 683 responded to Rt 430 @ Peck Rd. 680 arrived and reported 2 vehicles moderate damage 1 off the road. 3 patients all with minor injuries were assessed, treated and transported to UPMC Hamot. 683's crew secured the vehicles and the scene. Fire Police assisted the State Police until the roadway was cleared. The accident is under investigation.
November Brush Fires 11/13/11 - Early Sunday morning Kearsarge requested Kuhl Hose to assist at a large woods fire. 689, 683, 685, REHAB 68 and manpower responded. Crews were met with a large fire burning in a wooded area. High winds hampered efforts and quickly spread the fire. Kuhl Hose Crews along with crews from Edinboro, Perry Hiway and Waterford cut a fire line to contain the fire, and then worked to extinguish as much of the fire as possible. Multiple crews from across the county were called to assist with manpower. Kuhl Hose cleared the scene just before noon and went to Station #43 to put 689 & 439 back in service.
11/09/11 - Kuhl Hose was dispatched to assist Brookside at a Brush Fire near rolling ridge park. Crews worked to contain and extinguish the fire for several hours 689 responded along with manpower to assist. As 689 was clearing the scene they were dispatched to another incident off of Bonnie Brae with Fairfield. Crews were on the scene for about an hour.
